The Barr Apartments used to be The Barr Hotel and is an historic hotel in downtown Lima, Ohio built in 1914. It is located at the corners of High and N. Union St. and extend to Central Ave on the east. In 1986, the Barr Hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its significance in overall American history.

In 1994, the building was totally renovated and converted from a hotel to an apartment building.  All new electric, plumbing, HVAC, cabinetry etc. were installed. The sixty-nine apartments consist of studios, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments.  Many of the apartments include large windows that allow abundant sunlight in and great views of downtown Lima.

This beautiful seven story building has long been a part of Downtown Lima scenery and in addition to the conversion done in 1994, in 2010, there began more upgrades to not only every apartment but the lobby, landscaping, and high tech secured entrances, guest call up system and security monitoring were added. Upon purchasing in 2010, the new owners wanted the historical building to be fully upgraded with the best technology and a welcoming lobby area.

The landlord pays for trash, water and sewer and the tenant is responsible for electric. High speed internet and phone are available at reduced rates for a sizable cost savings if needed. A security deposit equal to first month’s rent is required to hold and reserve an apartment at the Historic Barr Apartments. A Twenty-five dollar application fee should accompany your signed application and full background and credit checks are performed on any potential tenant. This is a no smoking building but smoking is permitted in the green area surrounding the building.
